UK emergency room lifts limits on new patients after water leak repaired

A water leak forced the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital to restrict admissions to its emergency room for about 12 hours Sunday.

The problem was repaired and full emergency operations resumed just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, UK officials said.

The incident began about 6:30 a.m. with water leaking from the ceiling above the hospital's new emergency department, which opened in July. Officials decided to shut down part of the adult emergency room operation as a precaution while repairs were made, a spokesman said.

Trauma, burn and pediatrics patients continued to be seen in the emergency room through the day, although all other emergency room patients were diverted to other Lexington hospitals until the problem was repaired.
