Lexington mayor Jim Gray plans to donate a children's book Tuesday morning to encourage residents to participate in a book drive.
The Half Price Books Half Pint Library Book Drive started Feb. 14 and runs until March 31. Collected books are donated to non-profit and community organizations for children.
The mayor will make his donation at a 10 a.m. news conference to draw attention to the effort.
New and used children's books can be dropped off at any Half Price Books store. Lexington's store is at 2321 Sir Barton Way.
For the first time, Half Price Books plans to match the number of books donated. Louisville and Lexington stores collected about 5,000 books last year, said Emily Bruce, a store spokeswoman.
