Lexington mayor's liaison to council resigns

Jennifer Mossotti, one of Mayor Jim Gray's early appointees to his staff, has resigned her position as liaison between the mayor's office and the Urban County Council.

In a letter to Gray, Mossotti said it was with "deep regret" that she left her post effective May 9. "However, at this point in my career, I want to explore some other professional opportunities," she said.

Reached at her home on Thursday, Mossotti said about her departure: "It wasn't a good fit." She declined to elaborate on why it was not a good fit. "It didn't work out," she said.

Mossotti served four terms on the council as representative of the ninth district.

She is a Prudential de Movellan real estate agent. Asked whether she planned to return to selling real estate, Mossotti said, "Right now, I haven't had time to think about it."

She said she had one daughter who married two weeks ago, and another daughter with a baby due in about a month. "Right now I'm taking care of family matters," she said.
