Survivor of fatal crash on I-75 remains in critical condition

A woman injured in a crash that killed two others on Interstate 75 on Friday remained in critical condition at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital Saturday evening.

Joseph Vardeman, 38, of Corbin, was driving a minivan north in the southbound lanes when he crashed head-on into a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, Kentucky State Police said in a release. Police said Vardeman and Amy Adkins, 26, of East Peoria, Ill., a passenger in the Impala, died in the crash.

The driver of the Impala, Megan Crawford, 25, of Metamora, Ill., was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington, where she was listed in critical condition Saturday night.

State police received a call from a motorist shortly before 4 a.m. Friday reporting a vehicle traveling the wrong way in the I-75 southbound lanes near mile marker 83, between Richmond and Berea, Trooper Chris Lanham said.

At 4 a.m., a head-on collision was reported to state police, he said.
