A man was hit by a car while trying to cross South Broadway on Tuesday night.
Stanley E. Phillips of Lexington was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a police news release.
Phillips was wearing dark clothing, was not in a crosswalk and is thought to have been under the influence of alcohol when he was struck in front of the Shell station in the 900 block of South Broadway at 7:07 p.m., police said.
A driver headed north in the left lane saw Phillips and slowed down, later saying Phillips was staggering as he crossed in front of her vehicle.
Michael Showalter, the driver of a northbound Ford Taurus in the right lane, did not see Phillips in time to stop and hit him, according to the release. Showalter was not injured.
