The Urban County Council gave final approval on Tuesday night to the recommendations of a task force regarding the reopening of the Charles Young Community Center on East Third Street.
The next steps will be to set up an advisory board to work on which services should be offered at the center and secure funding for repairs at the facility, which has been closed since 2008, said First District Councilman Chris Ford, who chaired the task force.
The task force found that preferred uses for the center include a recreational facility, community center, youth activities, services for senior citizens and job training or workforce development.
The center is named in honor of Maysville native Col. Charles Young, the third black man to graduate from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
