On Saturday, the Salvation Army reported that there were 981 children's request for Christmas toys left on the Angel Tree at Fayette Mall.
By Sunday afternoon, there were only 159 Angel Tree cards left, Maj. Debra Ashcraft said.
"This community is so amazing," she said Sunday. "I want to cry, it's so amazing."
In order to help the last 159 children, the Salvation Army is extending the Angel Tree program through 8 p.m. Monday. Angel Tree cards can be picked up at the Salvation Army's Christmas Center, 1030 South Broadway, starting at 9 a.m. The gifts will be accepted through 8 p.m. . People also can make cash donations at 736 Main Street with credit cards or checks marked "Angel Tree". Donations also can be made Monday by calling (859) 252-7706, Ext. 121, during business hours.
