Urban County Council member Ed Lane submitted his resignation as a member of the Lexington-Fayette County Airport board on Monday to Mayor Jim Gray. Lane said he felt his time would be better spent addressing the city's pressing financial issues.
Lane has served on the airport board since January 2009. He was appointed by former Mayor Jim Newberry to serve as the mayor's representative on the board, shortly after the airport's executive director and three deputy directors had resigned.
Over the last three years, board members have worked "exceptionally hard," to hire new executive management, restructure the airport's operations and implement recommendations made by then state auditor Crit Luallen.
"The quality of the board is outstanding today and the airport is running very efficiently," Lane said. His resignation will be effective on Jan. 31.
