A Lexington man was critically injured Sunday in a bizarre motorcycle crash in rural Fayette County.
Joseph Jennings was riding a 2010 Honda Goldwing on Spurr Road, between North Yarnallton Pike and Shamrock Lane, when the motorcycle left the road and struck a plank fence, police said in a news release.
The motorcycle broke through the three bottom planks of the fence, but the top plank stayed in place, Lexington police Lt. Chris Van Brackel said. The motorcycle stayed partially upright, pinning Jennings between his motorcycle's high-backed seat and the top plank.
He was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with life-threatening injuries, the news release said. The hospital listed him in critical condition Sunday evening.

Jennings was heading outbound and apparently went off the road while taking a curve. He "attempted evasive maneuvers" but lost control of the motorcycle, the news release said.
Van Brackel said Jennings was not speeding and was not thought to be intoxicated.
"It was completely a freak collision," he said.
