Volunteers sought to beautify Richmond Rd.

The Keep Lexington Beautiful Commission and Lowe's home improvement stores are looking for volunteers to help beautify the Richmond Road corridor using a $20,000 grant.

The Keep Lexington Beautiful Commission, Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation and Fayette Councilman Bill Farmer announced the grant Monday. It was one of 120 given by the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation nationwide to support grassroots community improvement projects.

The grant will fund projects in the Lakeshore Drive area of Richmond Road later this month. The projects include the removal of bush honeysuckle that has overgrown a creek, cleaning up litter and debris, and installation of native plants.

To volunteer for the Oct. 20 stream cleanup event, register at Lowesproject.eventbrite.com. To volunteer for the Oct. 27 native plant installation, visit Lowesplantingproject.eventbrite.com.
