Driver's licensing offices in Fayette County will be closed Tuesday while equipment is installed to make licenses harder to counterfeit.
Residents will not be able to renew driver's licenses at either the Fayette County Clerk's office downtown or the satellite office on Regency Road Tuesday. (Other functions at the county clerk's office, such as marriage licenses and vehicle registration, will remain open.)
Driver's licensing operations are expected to resume Wednesday. The one-day closure will allow for the installation of new cameras and computer software for the new licenses, according to a news release form the state Transportation Cabinet.
The new licenses will have several new security features, including finer printing, improved lamination, a ghost image and a digital watermark undetectable by the human eye, the release said.
Drivers are not required to renew their old licenses before they expire.
