Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear joined Lexington officials Monday to announce a sizable grant for the extension of a walking and biking trail.
The $66,868 Recreational Trail Program grant will be used to extend a portion of the Brighton Rail Trail, which stretches from Man o' War Boulevard to Pleasant Ridge Park, according to a news release from the city.
The grant will finance the construction of 2,600 feet of new asphalt trail that will connect to an existing one-mile portion of the Liberty Park Trail and that eventually will connect to the Brighton East Rail Trail.
The new trail will be 10 feet wide and will help reduce the gap between two trails that connect three city parks. Once completed, the entire project will result in 3.8 miles of continuous trail for walkers, skaters and cyclists, the news release said.
