Proposal to allow food trucks moves forward in Lexington council

An ordinance streamlining the licensing and permitting process for mobile food trucks, and making changes in license fees food trucks pay, will go to Lexington's Urban County Council work session next week for a vote.

The ordinance received preliminary approval from the council's economic and development committee on Tuesday.

A work group was appointed several weeks ago to consider issues governing food trucks, including where they can set up and hours of operation.

The work group will continue to meet on some of the more contentious issues, such as how far food trucks have to be from a restaurant and whether trucks can set up on public land. Presently, mobile food vendors can only set up on private property except for special events and festivals.
