A rally in support of immigration reform will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in Triangle Park in downtown Lexington, said Brian Rich, a board member of the Kentucky Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.
A program at the event, called the Kentucky Rally for Legalization with Dignity, will begin at noon Wednesday with speeches and songs in both Spanish and English.
Wednesday's rally commemorates the Spring 2006 rallies in America's largest cities when people protested "punitive" immigration legislation and advocated a path to citizenship for Latino undocumented workers, Rich said.
The Kentucky rally is one of 70 events scheduled in U. S. cities in a two-week period to demand action by Congress to improve the legal status of undocumented immigrants and their families, said Rich. The largest rally will take place in Washington D.C on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
