Two requests, one for assistance with rent, the other to pay an electric bill, were received this week at Lex-Care.
Jennifer Hughes, a social worker at Hospice of the Bluegrass, is counseling the family of a Hospice patient who needs $450 to pay their rent.
The husband is terminally ill and the wife recently lost her job. The loss of her income, which supplemented his Social Security benefits, has caused them to fall behind on their rent.
Once the bill is taken care of and she finds a job they will be able to manage.

Unusual winter creates electric bill issue
A married couple who needs $500 to pay their electric bill has turned to Shannon Gordon, a social worker at The Senior Citizen's Center, for guidance.
The husband retired as a heavy equipment operator after 45 years. Faulty windows and an unusually cold winter caused an increase in the couple's electric bill.
After the bill is paid, they will be able to manage on their income and pay to have the windows replaced.
