A teenage boy was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital Tuesday night after being hit by a car while trying to cross New Circle Road.

The teen had "very serious" injuries but was conscious when the ambulance left the scene, said Lt. Chris Young of the Lexington police.

The accident happened about 6:30 p.m. on the inner loop of New Circle, just past Harrodsburg Road.

The boy apparently came out of a tree line and had gotten halfway across the inner loop when he was hit by a passenger car in the left lane.

He was thrown up onto the car's windshield, over the cable barrier and into the grassy median.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Young said no charges are expected to be filed against the driver.

The police collision reconstruction unit was investigating.

Pedestrians are prohibited on the limited access portion of New Circle Road.
