Pedestrian shot in face on Seventh Street

A man was shot in the face while walking on Seventh Street in Lexington on Saturday night.

The injury to the man's upper cheek was not thought to be life-threatening.

The man, whose name was not released, told police that he and a female companion walked past three juveniles who were sitting on the curb at Jackson and Seventh streets, said Lt. Eddie Hart of the Lexington police.

When the couple turned around and walked back past the three young men, the victim told police, one of the youths stood up and shot him about 9:30 p.m.

"There are some inconsistencies in the story," Hart said.

The victim, whom Hart said called police on his cell phone, was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

Hart said the victim was in stable condition soon after the shooting and was preparing to go into surgery to determine whether the bullet passed all the way through or was still lodged in the his cheek.

He said police did not have any suspects as of about 10:30 p.m.
