Lexington residents can get rid of unwanted and outdated medicine at a free Med Toss event Saturday. Law enforcement will accept medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Kentucky American Water, at 2300 Richmond Road; Lexington Catholic High School, 2250 Clays Mill Road; and at Consolidated Baptist Church, 1625 Russell Cave Road.
Keep the medicines in their original containers, but mark out personal information on the bottle. Prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, liquids and pills will be accepted.
"Med Toss is important because it keeps pharmaceuticals and control substances out of the wrong hands and waterways," police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.
Med Toss is part of National Drug Take Back Day, in which law enforcement all over the country collect unwanted drugs and educate the public about the potential for abuse of medications, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
