A Christmas tree in the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden at Midland Avenue and Third Street will be lit during a ceremony Monday
It is one of the city's four official Christmas trees, and Mayor Jim Gray and Urban County Council member Chris Ford will join members of the garden's board of directors and neighborhood residents for the 6 p.m. event. Hot chocolate and hot cider will be available.
The art garden, for which ground was broken in July after seven years of planning, celebrates famed black jockey Isaac Murphy, a Bourbon County native who won the Kentucky Derby in 1884, 1890 and 1891. He is considered one of the greatest riders of all time.
