Six people taken to hospital after wreck in north Lexington

A wreck near the intersection of Park Place and Russell Cave Road led to six people being taken to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon, one with life threatening injuries.

Lt. Eric Lowe said the police were dispatched at 1:28 p.m. and the first officer to arrive was on the scene at 1:30 p.m.

Two cars were involved in the accident: a black Lexus and a red Pontiac. The driver of the Lexus has life threatening injuries and had to go into surgery. Two of the people in the Lexus were juveniles and three were adults. One adult was in the red Pontiac. Everyone involved in the accident sustained injuries, but the others were not life threatening.

The intersection was taped off and closed while police cleared the area and the two damaged cars were towed. The road was open again at 4:13 p.m. The collision reconstruction team is still investigating the cause of the accident.
