Sagging ground wire knocked out electricity to Versailles Road corridor; power now restored

A sagging ground wire caused a power outage that left Blue Grass Airport and nearly 12,000 customers along the Versailles Road corridor in Fayette County without electricity from 3:05 p.m. to 4:25 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, according to Kentucky Utilities.

KU said wind blew a sagging ground wire onto a main transmission line near Rupp Arena. The touching of the wires caused the main transmission line to shut down. The line runs from downtown near Rupp down Versailles Road and past the airport.
