College football playoffs are here
Finally, major college football lets more teams in the mix for its national title, and that means New Year's Day again has become a home for big-time games after years of dwindling importance. The day of bowls begins at noon, building up to a 5 p.m. matchup between No. 2 Oregon and No. 3 Florida State in the first semifinal and finishing with an 8:30 p.m. game between No. 1 Alabama and No. 4 Ohio State. Both games are on ESPN. The winners play in the national championship Jan. 12.
