A woman suffered a life-threatening head injury after being hit by a vehicle Saturday night.
The woman, who was not identified, was trying to cross Winchester Road at Strader Drive when she was hit by an SUV at 5:57 p.m., said Lexington police Lt. Jesse Harris.
Emergency workers on the way to the hospital said that the woman was found unresponsive in the road and that she remained unresponsive in the ambulance.
After the collision, the woman's coat lay in the road, and the SUV was stopped nearby.
There is no crosswalk or traffic light at the intersection.
Harris said it is not uncommon for pedestrians to be hit at the intersection as they walk between the Thorntons convenience store on one side of the street and the Sportsman Motel on the other.
Outbound Winchester Road was closed between Loudon Avenue and Industry Road for several hours while police investigated but has reopened.
