A helicopter leaving University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital made a precautionary landing Wednesday afternoon.
Shelly Schnider, spokeswoman for Air Evac Lifeteam, said the pilot of an AirVac109 helicopter decided to land because he noticed that a gauge was not reading correctly. The landing was precautionary, she said.
WKYT-TV reported that the helicopter landed in a field in the Arboretum on Alumni Drive about 2:30 p.m. after the pilot smelled smoke.
The helicopter was leaving the UK hospital and was headed to Air Evac's headquarters in Manchester.
