A fire Thursday night damaged the old Continental Inn off Eastland Parkway.
A fire engine was heading back from another call when firefighters saw smoke and flames coming from the vacant building, Battalion Chief Mark Harvey said.
During a search of the building, firefighters found evidence that people had been living there, Harvey said. None were in the building during the fire, and there were no injuries.
Crews had to deal with chained and boarded-up doors as they worked to douse the flames, Harvey said. The doors needed to be opened in case firefighters needed to get out of the building quickly.
