The official portrait of former Mayor Teresa Isaac was unveiled Thursday at a special ceremony before the Urban County Council meeting.
Isaac was mayor from 2003 to 2006. Before that, she was a member of the council from 1990-98, including six years as vice mayor. She also was an assistant Fayette County attorney for three years.
The portrait, paid for through private fundraising by the Lexington History Museum, will be hung in the council chambers. Traditionally, official portraits were commissioned after a mayor left office. But the city got away from that practice over the past decade. Earlier this year, an official portrait of former three-term Mayor Scotty Baesler was unveiled. The official portrait of former Mayor Jim Newberry will be presented later this year.
All three portraits were painted by Versailles artist Steve Sawyer.
