The city unveiled the official portrait of former Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry at a ceremony at the Lexington Government Center on Thursday.
Newberry, who served from 2007 to 2010, was the third and final mayor to have his official portrait unveiled. The city paired with the Lexington History Museum to commission the official portraits painted by Versailles artist Steve Sawyer.
The museum raised money to pay for the portraits. Typically, a mayor’s portrait is commissioned a year after leaving office. But the city got behind in past years. Other former mayors whose portraits were recently unveiled include Scotty Baesler and Teresa Isaac. The portraits are hung in the Urban County Council chambers.
