University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital chaplain Laura Babbage, who is the wife of a Kentucky political analyst, has returned to Lexington after being seriously injured during a cycling accident last week in France.
Babbage suffered severe head trauma and was in an induced coma at an intensive care unit in Grenoble, France, before being “medically evacuated,” according to a Facebook post by her husband, Bob Babbage.
She was able to be moved to Lexington because she remained stable and without infection, according to the post. She is now at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.
“Laura remains in critical condition,” Bob Babbage said Wednesday in a statement released by the hospital. “She is now at UK Chandler Hospital and we are glad to be here and be home. We are deeply grateful for everyone’s kindness and concern. We hope to share more information in the future but at this time ask for privacy and continued prayers.”
Because of her condition, the family is not allowing visitors other than immediate family and clergy, according to the post.
Laura Babbage has an undergraduate degree in nursing from Eastern Kentucky University, a master’s degree in international business and diplomacy from UK and a master’s of divinity degree from Lexington Theological Seminary.
She served as the CEO of Urgent Treatment Centers in Lexington, according to a bio from Eastern Kentucky University. She also co-wrote a book with her brother-in-law Keen Babbage titled “Life Lessons from Cancer.”
