A motorcyclist died Friday morning after a crash on Newtown Pike in Lexington.
Ryan A. Cain, 50, died just after 8 a.m. at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, according to the coroner’s office.
Newtown Pike was closed for several hours between West Main Street and Maryland Avenue while officers investigated. Traffic was being diverted onto Old Georgetown Street.
Michael Page said he was driving to a work site when the crash occurred. His truck was in the left outbound lane just behind the box truck, which was in the right outbound lane.
At about 7:40 a.m., Cain was riding inbound through a curve when he hit the median, went across a grassy barrier and struck the box truck, Page said. Cain went under the box truck, and the motorcycle slid in front of Page’s truck.
Two nurses who were passing through stopped to help Cain until an ambulance arrived, Page said.
“Thank God for those two nurses. ... They jumped right in,” Page said.
No citations or charges have been filed in the case, but police are investigating.
