An Ohio man died at the University of Kentucky Hospital Tuesday after a crash on I-64 in Franklin County on Monday.
Mustafa Widdi, 23, of North Olmsted, Ohio, had been driving west near the Kentucky River bridge about 2 p.m. when he approached a construction zone where traffic had slowed.
Widdi was driving fast, and he tried to change lanes abruptly, merging into the left lane, then immediately switching back into the right lane, state police said. His vehicle rear-ended a tractor trailer.
Widdi was taken by helicopter to UK, where he was pronounced dead at 10:52 a.m. Tuesday. He had not been wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Edgar Sandlin Jr., 46, of Lexington, was not injured.
