A Frankfort man who hit a police officer with his truck during a traffic stop was sentenced Friday to four years in prison.
Russell Wheat was sentenced to four years in prison for the February incident in which he hit Frankfort police officer Byron Redmon, who had stopped Wheat on Schenkel Lane. The officer suspected that Wheat had been driving under the influence.
Wheat fled but was found in a wooded area nearby.
Redmon was treated and released Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Wheat pleaded guilty on July 1 to assaulting a police officer; first-degree wanton endangerment; fleeing and evading; driving under the influence, second offense; leaving the scene of an accident; possession of marijuana; criminal mischief and failure to wear a seat belt.
