A Lexington man was charged with attempting to arrange sex with what he thought was an 11-year-old girl, the attorney general's office said Thursday.
Sherwin D. Collins, who also goes by the name Rick, allegedly exchanged emails and text messages with what he thought was a mother he met on Craigslist, according to the attorney general's office. During the two-week Cybercrimes Unit undercover investigation, Collins, 48, allegedly arranged a Frankfort meeting with the woman and her daughter so he could have sex with the child, investigators said.
Collins also allegedly sent "inappropriate pictures of himself, divulging his identity," according to the attorney general's news release. He was arrested Wednesday in Frankfort, and police obtained a warrant to search Collins' home in Lexington.
Charged with one count of trying to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities, he was jailed Wednesday and was arraigned Thursday morning in Fayette District Court, according to the attorney general's office. A cash bond was set at $10,000.
The charge is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
