NICHOLASVILLE — A meeting to answer questions from the public about the proposed Eastern Bypasss around Nicholasville will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Blue Building at City-County Park at the end of Longview Drive.
The meeting will present the latest plans for the road that will wrap around Nicholasville's eastern side to lessen traffic through downtown. Representatives from the state Transportation Cabinet and engineers will be available to answer questions any time between 5 and 7 p.m. Thursday.
The 7.4-mile bypass will cost an estimated $42 million for construction. Planners began meeting in 1999 to figure out a route for the proposed bypass.
Under the current timetable, acquisition of rights-of-way will begin in the spring of 2012, and utility relocations will begin in the fall of 2013, according to the Transportation Cabinet. The best estimate for beginning of construction is the fall of 2014.
