Nicholasville woman stabbed by attacker who then stabbed himself, police say

A Nicholasville woman was stabbed several times Thursday and her attacker was later found to have stabbed himself in an apparent suicide attempt, Nicholasville police said Friday.

On Thursday morning, police responded to 244 Strawberry Lane in response to a call about an assault. Upon arrival, officers found a woman sitting in the driveway of 236 Strawberry Lane with several stab wounds to her upper torso.

The woman, whom police did not identify, said a suspect had forced himself into the residence that he sometimes shared with her, and had assaulted her with a knife inside the home.

The suspect, Joseph Kenney, had left the scene on foot but was seen near Lake Mingo Park. Officers approached Kenney and found that he had stabbed himself multiple times in the abdominal area, and that he also had a large stab wound to his throat.

Kenney and the victim were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital by ambulance. The victim was treated and released, police said. But Kenney remained in serious condition on Friday, a UK spokeswoman said.
