Lexington records 4th wettest day on record

Despite more than five-inches of rain in Lexington Sunday, Lexington police said that impacts were minimal in terms of road closures and traffic incidents or rescues.

According to meteorologist Chris Bailey, 5.36 inches of rain by 5 p.m. made Sunday the fourth wettest day on record for Lexington.

Rainfall in the early morning and early afternoon did produce standing water on many roads and intersections prone to flooding, particularly in the area of Versailles Road. A portion of Alexandria Drive at Leestown Road was closed in the afternoon due to flooding. But Lt. Jesse Harris said the number of actual incidents was surprisingly small, considering the rainfall.

Accoring to WLEX-TV, fire crews in Jessamine County did have to rescue a driver caught in flood waters on Mackey Pike.
