Mike McCarty, who fell from the back of a Jet Ski in the Kentucky River on Sunday, was found about 3 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said
McCarty's body was pulled from the Kentucky River, near the Jessamine-Mercer County line, said Scott Elder, Mercer County chief deputy.
Authorities are not sure how far McCarty traveled, but he was found near where he fell off a Jet Ski, Elder said.
McCarty, who lived near the river, went missing near the Brooklyn Bridge off U.S. 68 at Palisades about 6 p.m. Sunday, WKYT-TV reported. Doug Hampton said he was operating the Jet Ski with Mike McCarty riding behind him, and at some point, McCarty fell off, the Associated Press reported. Hampton said he didn't notice at first that McCarty was gone.
McCarty was not wearing a life vest, Elder said.
A cadaver dog and sonar equipment were brought in by rescue workers, and water traffic was shut down to parts of the river Sunday night so divers could look for McCarty.
Authorities are investigating the cause of McCarty's fall, Elder said. An autopsy is being conducted by the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort.
