Lexington police and firefighters ended a search of the Kentucky River at Valley View on Monday after no evidence was found.
The search began Monday in response to a vague tip called in Saturday, Sgt. Ann Welch said.
"It was a matter where someone heard, that someone heard, that something may have happened there," Welch said.
The police department must look into every tip, Welch said.
"We can't risk not going because the information is vague, only to find out that something did happen," Welch said.
Lexington police are not equipped to do river searches, so the Lexington Fire Department joined the investigation, Welch said.
The police department had no plans to continue searching without further information.
The Jessamine County Sheriff's Office and Nicholasville police assisted in the search.
