Drive in from Richmond or other points southeast of Lexington every day? Forget hassling with downtown traffic. Let LexTran do the driving.
Starting Monday, LexTran will provide express bus service along Richmond Road during morning and afternoon peak traffic hours. The Richmond Road Express Route 27 will originate at Lakeside Golf Course, 3725 Richmond Road, near Jacobson Park.
Free parking for LexTran passengers will be designated in the front parking lot.
The new express service will operate Monday through Friday. Pickups at the golf course are scheduled for 6:30 a.m., 7:15 a.m. and 8 a.m. Express stops will be at: Main Street and Midland Avenue, Main Street in front of the Lexington police department (mornings only), Vine Street and South Broadway, Vine Street and South Upper and the downtown transit center. These will be the only stops on the route.
Afternoon drop-offs at Lakeside will be 4:48 p.m. and 5:38 p.m. The cost is $1 each way.
Also starting Monday, new service will be added to the Lakeshore Drive and Alumni Drive areas. The Lakeshore-Alumni Drive Route 26 will provide service on Lakeshore Drive between Fontaine Road and Seton Road, and on Chinoe Road between Fontaine Road and Alumni Drive.
The bus will stop at Cooper and University drives for passengers transferring to the University of Kentucky or Bluegrass Community and Technical College routes.
