A Richmond man was charged Monday with endangering the welfare of a minor in connection with an arrest for drunken driving, police said.
Stephen D. Phillips, 35, of Foxhaven Drive was also charged with driving under the influence, disregarding a stop sign and operating a motor vehicle on a suspended or revoked driver's license.
At about 5:40 p.m. Monday, a police officer saw a vehicle driven by Phillips speeding on Northgate Drive as it approached the intersection with Foxhaven. Upon reaching the intersection, the vehicle failed to stop for a stop sign and nearly collided with another vehicle.
Police subsequently found Phillips and the vehicle in the 1600 block of Foxhaven and determined that he was under the influence of alcoholic beverages. Police further determined that a 6-year-old child was in the vehicle while Phillips was driving.
The child was later released to a family member. Phillips remained in the Madison County jail Tuesday afternoon in lieu of a $7,500 cash bond.
