Two men are accused of assaulting a Richmond police officer Saturday night.
Ernie Laug, 27, of Richmond was charged with second-degree assault of an officer, first-degree wanton endangerment and several minor offenses, police said.
Brett D. Cain, 20, of Richmond was charged with complicity to second-degree assault and complicity to first-degree wanton endangerment, police said.
During the investigation of a complaint in Williams Mobile Home Park off Big Hill Avenue, Laug started a vehicle and sideswiped the unidentified officer, causing a cut and bruise to the officer's elbow area, a Richmond police release said. Cain was a passenger in the vehicle, the release said.
The vehicle swerved to miss another officer and someone the officer was questioning.
The incident happened as Richmond police investigated a complaint about a suspicious person shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday.
Laug and Cain were lodged in the Madison County jail. Laug remained there Monday night in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond, and Cain remained there in lieu of a $5,000 cash bond.
