A man allegedly trying to break into a Richmond house Saturday morning was shot three times by the homeowner, according to Kentucky State Police.
Steven Womack called police to say he had caught Steven Murphy breaking into his house on Hager Drive in Richmond, according to a news release.
When officers arrived, Womack said he had tried to hold Murphy, 38, at gunpoint, but Murphy tried to get away by jumping out the window. In doing so, he looked back at Womack and seemed to reach into his pocket, Womack said. Fearing for his life, Womack fired his gun, hitting Murphy three times, police said.
Murphy was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.
