Rescue teams combed a rural area in western Madison County on Saturday in search of a 53-year-old man who has not been seen since Tuesday.
Madison County Deputy Sheriff Kevin Crutcher said repeated searches, including the use of helicopters on Friday, have turned up no traces of Richard Ross in the Poosey Ridge area, where he lives.
"Search and rescue people have been all over that area for the past few days, and they are out there now as we speak," Crutcher said shortly before noon Saturday. "But as of right now, it's kind of a mystery. We don't know what happened to him, or where he has gone to."
According to neighbors, Ross ate lunch with his parents on Tuesday, and someone talked with him by cell phone that afternoon. Family members became concerned after Ross failed to show up for supper Tuesday night.

Authorities say they found Ross's van at his home, and that he left behind the insulin he takes for diabetes.
