A father and son died and four other people were injured in a crash Friday morning in Madison County near the Estill County line, Kentucky State Police said.
Joshua Nelson, 28, and his son, Jacob Nelson, 3, both of Waco, were pronounced dead at the scene after the nearly head-on collision between a car and a sport-utility vehicle, said Trooper Paul Blanton, public affairs officer for the state police post in Richmond.
Two passengers in the Nelson car were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with multiple injuries, Blanton said. Taylor Shea Nelson, 24, wife of Joshua and mother of Jacob, was listed in serious condition, and 1-year-old Jonah Nelson, was listed in critical condition, a UK spokeswoman said.
The SUV was driven by Lance Patterson, 46, and Cody Patterson, 16, was a passenger, Both are from Richmond. Lance Patterson was transferred from Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center in Richmond to UK Hospital, where he was in fair condition. Cody Patterson was treated and released from the Richmond hospital.

The crash was reported just before 8 a.m. Friday on Ky. 52 about 7 miles east of Richmond, Blanton said.
The crash happened on a stretch of three-lane road with two lanes headed west and one lane headed east, Blanton said.
A preliminary investigation shows that Joshua Nelson was driving a Chevrolet passenger car west on Ky. 52. The Nelson car was struck by the SUV headed east on 52, state police said.
