Three people killed in a house fire in Madison County late Friday were all adults and died as a result of smoke inhalation, Kentucky State Police announced Monday.
Autopsies confirmed the cause of death for the three. However, their bodies were badly burned and medical examiners could not positively identify them, according to a news release.
State police will continue investigating to confirm the identities of the victims.
Police have also determined the fire was an accident. Investigators believe the deadly blaze may have been caused by the use of a wood stove in the single-story house.

There was no electricity at the house. The owners were letting potential tenants work on the house, but no one was supposed to be living in it yet.
Firefighters were called to the burning house late Friday, but had no reason to think there was anyone inside and so did not search the ruins that night, said Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison. Firefighters and Cornelison found the three bodies Saturday morning.
