Police in Richmond are warning citizens about a telephone scam in which a caller is pretending to be a representative of the Internal Revenue Service.
Police say they have received several complaints about the calls, in which the caller uses a "computer-masked voice" to tell the potential victim that the "IRS is filing lawsuit against you."
The caller then gives the victim a telephone number to call to get more information.
"Citizens should be aware that no governmental agency would notify citizens of such action with a computer generated call or a call requesting any personal information or money," the news release stated.
