A convicted sex offender who got a Berea teen to send him explicit photos of herself has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
The sentence for Luis A. Cabellero, 38, was enhanced because he was on parole for a prior sex crime in California involving an 11-year-old girl when he victimized the Kentucky teen.
A court record said that the girl in Berea, then 14, met Cabellero through a random contact on Facebook in November 2013 and that the two communicated for months.
Caballero threatened at one point to come to Kentucky and kidnap the teen, according to a court record. The girl's guardian ultimately contacted police.
Caballero's attorney, Robert L. Abell, filed notice Monday that Caballero would appeal the sentence. U.S. District Judge Karen K. Caldwell imposed the sentence Thursday.
