10-year-old Georgetown girl escapes armed kidnapper. Now police need your help.

A 10-year-old girl escaped an attempted kidnapping Saturday after a man pulled a gun and tried to take her outside of a Scott County apartment complex, Georgetown Police said.

Sgt. Joe Payton of the Georgetown Police Department said around 11 a.m. the girl was walking near the Scotland Woods apartments when a man approached her and grabbed her by the arm.

“He then showed her a handgun but she was able to get away,” Payton said. The girl ran. The man then took off and ran around the apartment complex.

The girl was uninjured and was able to get to help, Payton said. The man was a stranger to the girl, he said.

Georgetown Police had a person of interest in the case late Saturday. That man was questioned by later released by police. Police are still searching for the suspect. Anyone with any information about the attempted abduction should call Georgetown Police at (502)-863-7820.
