Bicyclists will converge on Georgetown and Lexington this weekend to participate in three bike-related events.
More than 1,500 bicyclists from throughout the country are expected at the Bluegrass Cycling Club's 32nd Horsey Hundred, based at Georgetown College, on Saturday and Sunday. Riders will take routes of 25 to 100 miles through Bluegrass country. Participants will be provided with maps, snacks, road support and a barbecue dinner.
Lexington cyclists will host a Bike Bash for out-of-state visitors at Cheapside Park at 6 p.m. Saturday. The bash will include music, food, drinks, head-to-head bike roller races and short bike films. A shuttle from Georgetown College to the bash in Lexington and back will be available.
The annual Bike Lexington will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday in downtown Lexington. Based at Courthouse Plaza at East Main Street and North Limestone, the event features a 10-mile bike rally that begins at 11 a.m., a bike safety rodeo and bike decorating booth for children at 10 a.m., and bike races at 3 p.m.
Some downtown streets will remain free of cars from 1 to 3 p.m. for walking, running, skating, biking, group exercises and bike polo. All activities are free. There also will be food, drink, live music and prizes.
