Georgetown police investigate reported sexual assault on campus

Police in Georgetown are investigating a reported sexual assault in a parking lot next to Anderson Hall at Georgetown College. A female student at the school called campus safety shortly after midnight Tuesday to report the incident, said Todd Gambill, dean of students and vice president of student life.

Lt. Robert Swanigan of the Georgetown Police Department said the victim described the attacker as a bearded white man in his late 20s who is more than 6 feet tall.

Gambill said students received an e-mail notifying them of the incident and reminding them to walk in groups, stay in well-lit areas and call for a campus safety escort if they want one.

Swanigan said the victim, who they believe was alone at the time of the incident, was treated and released from a hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Georgetown Police at (502) 863-7820.
