Coroner: Man found dead in Versailles fire apparently committed suicide

A man found dead Sunday inside a burning house in Versailles died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the Woodford County Coroner Ronald Owens Jr. said Tuesday.

Detectives said Zachary Morgan, 42, used gasoline to start the fire before shooting himself, Owens said.

The cause of death was determined by an autopsy. No suicide note was found, he said.

Morgan's body was found at the home at 264 Lexington Street after the fire was extinguished about noon Sunday.

Morgan, an electrician, left behind a wife and three daughters. His funeral is being handled by Clark Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held Saturday 1 p.m. at Versailles Baptist Church on Green Street following a gathering for friends and family.
